Pyrite has been in use by humans for at least 30,000 years.  Pyrite is easily polished and in the past it has been used for making many reflective surfaces, including mirrors. It can be found alone or among deposits of quartz and other precious stones; pyrite often lends these other crystals their distinctive golden flecks, such as those found in lapis lazuli, praziolite and schorl.   Pyrite has been associated with the Third or Solar Plexus Chakra, the Zodiac signs of Leo and Aries, the element of Earth and the Planets of Mars and Pluto.

Pyrite has been used as a protective amulet for millennia, both from animal attacks and from negative influences.  Its reflective surface was thought to send evil energies back to their source.  Pyrite is considered a protective talisman to firefighters, blacksmiths, bakers and builders.

Traditionally, Pyrite is known as a stone of luck, helping to attract abundance, wealth and prosperity.  It is thought to assist creative thought and inspiration.  It is also considered to be a powerful protection stone for shielding against all forms of negativity.  It is thought to stimulate the intellect, enhance memory, help recall, and uncover underlying truths.

Pyrite is said to promotes good physical health and emotional well-being. It is said to be helpful for infections, issues with blood, lungs, bones, inflammation and digestion.  It is considered to be particularly helpful to those convalescing from a long illness. Finally, it is protective against illness and exhaustion, making it a talisman for nurses, doctors and other caregivers.
